Merry & Bright Holiday Home Tour

Hello, lovely friends! I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I took a little hiatus from my blog and social media for the holiday but I've missed you all!

I wanted to let you know that I am part of a fun holiday home tour, the Merry & Bright Holiday Home Tour starting this Wednesday, December 2. (Wow, I can't believe tomorrow is already December 1!)

Anyway, I am teaming up with eight other talented bloggers to bring you tons of Christmas and Holiday inspiration. We will be posting on three different dates starting Wednesday, the second. We will then have a tour on the ninth and the sixteenth!   I will be posting here and linking up to all of the other ladies blogs so it will be easy to hop around the tour.

Also, check out our hashtag, #merryandbrightholidayhome on social media.  We'll be live at 7:00am Eastern time so don't forget to check back here bright and early on Wednesday!

Tree Classics Christmas Tree Review

Tree Classics Christmas Tree Review

Hello, friends.

Can you believe the Holidays are already fast approaching?!  Each year the stores seem to start putting out Christmas stuff earlier and earlier and I've found myself doing the same thing!

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not busting out Christmas stuff before Halloween but I started dragging boxes out of my basement not too long after.

I know, I know.  Thanksgiving... the forgotten holiday.  Yada, yada, yada...

But, here's the deal, I put so much time and effort into my Christmas decor that I want to enjoy it for more than the 28 days between Thanksgiving and Christmas.  Plus, it's my most favorite holiday so I get just a little excited to decorate.

So this year when Tree Classics asked me to do a review on one of their trees in mid-November I was like "fo'shizzle!"

Okay, maybe that's not exactly what I said but that's totally what I was thinking.

Here's why, I'm not the type to normally buy an artificial Christmas tree without seeing it in person first. When I buy something that is kind of expensive and has a big decorative impact in my home I want it to be just right.  I'm an Interior Decorator, I can't put up some shabby tree in my house and post pics of it all over my blog and website and expect people to say "I want that Interior Decorator with that really janky looking fake Christmas tree to come do that to my house."

Right?!

But, Tree Classics has been around for 40 years and has a reputation of being the top of the line of artificial Christmas trees so I did not hesitate to order online having never seen one in person.

I chose the Tree Classics Hyde Park Pine Snap Tree  that is 7 feet tall with clear lights.  Here's how it came right out of the box.  Relatively compact... 2 pieces of tree, rolling base with locks, and a storage bag.  (All of the crumbs on the floor were not included with the tree but by my two boys.  Sorry, you'll have to make your own).

Tree Classics Christmas Tree Review

Anywaaaaaay... the tree was super easy to assemble.  Snap the bottom tree part into the base. Then, stick the top tree part on.  I could do it myself!  Our old fake tree was in 3 pieces but the bottom part was so heavy I could not even put it in the stand. Mr.Chic always had to do it which was fine unless he was busy and I had to nag ask him nicely several times to please put the Christmas tree together 500 times  over the course of several days.  This one I can do all by myself whenever I want!  The lights are attached to the tree and the plug is in the pole, cool!

Well, that was easy.

And did I mention it is pre-lit with 750 lights?!  Not putting lights on a tree is a luxury.

Seriously.

All I had to do was fluff the branches and then I could start the fun part, decorating!  I did a rustic look this year, watch for a post with more on that soon.

Tree Classics Christmas Tree Review

I chose the Hyde Park tree basically because it looks real and pretty.  I am a form over function kind of girl BUT, this tree is easy!  I already told you about the easy assembly and it also is easy to put away.  It does this:

Hooray for easy and efficient storage!  It is going to take up less than half the space our old tree took up!  Our old tree was so big, awkward and bulky that it would barely fit in any tree storage bag and would end up busting through it.  And, I couldn't even move it because the largest piece was SO heavy.

About the pretty part, it is so pretty and realistic!  It is the most realistic tree I've ever owned and I've had some nice trees from a few different chain craft stores.  This one definitely looks and feels higher-end.  This one has tons of their "Real Feel Needles".  They look totally real!  They feel real too but not pokey or painful when you work with them like a real tree would be.  The outer tips are almost all the "real feel" look.  The classic PVC kind of branches and needles are on the inside towards the trunk and underside of the branches.  Check out my fancy diagram:

You can really tell in this picture how nice the real feel needles look compared to the PVC that makes up the majority of most other trees.

It has a foot on/off switch so I don't even have to bend over and turn it on and off!

And, it has a warranty!  Two years on lights and 5 years on foliage.

Here are the key features of this tree according to the Tree Classics site:

    All Models:

  • Exclusive Snap Tree™ technology for easy setup and storage
  • 5-Year Foliage and 2-Year Light Warranty. Learn more
  • A combination of Real-Feel™ PE needles for realism and PVC needles for fullness
  • Snap Tree™ rolling stand with locking casters
  • Comes with upright custom storage bag; tree stores on its stand
  • Classic full shape and lifelike appearance
  • Flame-proof material
  • Pre-Lit Models:

  • Quick Set™ technology connects all light strings within the tree trunk
  • Available with Clear or Color Changing LED lights
  • Includes on/off foot pedal for clear light models and power cord controller for LED models
  • Worry-Free™ UL®-approved lights
  • Professionally strung lights to hide wires
  • If a bulb burns out, the rest of the lights stay lit
  • Extra bulbs and fuses included
So, if you are looking for a very realistic and beautiful tree that is easy to store and move this is a great option for you.  The price isn't much more than most of the chain craft stores and they don't have anything this nice that I've seen.  I highly recommend it!

As I mentioned this post was sponsored by Tree Classics.  I was given an artificial Christmas tree from Tree Classics for my honest review and all opinions are mine. I do not recommend products on my blog that I wouldn't have in my own home.  Please see my Advertising and Disclosures tab at the top of the page for more information.

Come back soon to see more info about how I decorated my rustic themed tree this year.

Flaunt it Friday #281!

Hello, friends!

Wow, what a crazy week!  We are prepping for our last Chic Wood Creations sale of the year.  The Third Sunday Holiday Market.  This means we have been dabbling in Christmas stuff for a while.

I have been painting these Merry Christmas signs on reclaimed wood like a crazy person.  I'm sure hoping they sell or I'm going to be lining my walls with these all over my house! ;)

Even though it isn't even Thanksgiving I am feeling the Christmas spirit.  I don't know about you but I have to be in the mood to decorate for Christmas.  It's finally hit!

After the sale this weekend I am busting out all my Christmas stuff.  I started a little this week by dragging stuff out of the basement but just haven't had time to do the fun part.  I am so looking forward to it!

How about you, are you ready for Christmas?? Christmas decorating at least?

I'm sure some of you are and will be linking up.  I can't wait to see it!  Let's party!!

Fall Farmhouse Decor to Last All Season

Fall Farmhouse Decor Chic on a Shoestring Decorating Blog

Hi, friends!

This year I had a BUSY Fall! Besides the normal busyness of life we were blessed to take a vacation to Hawaii sans kiddos to celebrate our anniversary.  This was super awesome but it took a lot of time and planning and preparation to leave my kiddos with their grandparents and tie up loose ends with my work and blah, blah, blah... totally not complaining!!

Since I was going to be so busy I wanted to decorate my house for Fall with decor that would take me from September all the way to Thanksgiving.  I knew I just wouldn't have time to switch it up for Halloween and then Turkey Day shortly after so I needed to do something that would last.  Halloween got pretty much looked over this year but oh well, we weren't here the last 2 weeks of October anyway!

So, how do you pull off decor that lasts all Fall?

Pumpkins, of course.
And colorful leaves... with pumpkins... real and fake.

Every good farmhouse has some antlers.  They need pumpkins too.  Yes, Yes??

I snuck a little antler on my Fall mantle too right in front of a reclaimed wood pumpkin Mr. Chic made me.  Well, actually he made it to sell for our Chic Wood Creations business but I stole it! But then he said I could keep it, (he's so good to me!)
Fall Farmhouse fireplace mantle Decor Chic on a Shoestring Decorating Blog And my favorite Fall drink, a Salted Caramel Mocha from Starbucks.  (You thought I was going to say Pumpkin Spice Latte, didn't you??)   The Fall cups from the SB were so super cute this year I put it in my picture!  (Okay, I guess that's not really decorating advice but whatever, it's a cute cup and delish drink)

And a Fall chalkboard that is very, well... Fall. Not Halloween, not Thanksgiving, just Fall.  Can't get more Fall than this clever statement... ;)

Add your chalkboard to a Farmhouse-ish gallery wall.

I added in a Jack-O-Lantern face to my mantle with a reclaimed wood frame made by Mr. Chic just for fun!  (another stolen piece from Mr. Chic!!)  This can kind of pass as Halloween decor but it will work all Fall too so it's a sneaky way to add in some Halloweenie stuff.  I'm so tricky like that.

Colors:  Orange, aqua and a little bit of black, white, gray and a good mix of patterns.  Can't go wrong with these classics.

Oh wait... more pumpkins!!!  These are reclaimed wood pumpkins made by the hubs again and stolen by me again, Shhh, don't tell!!  They dress up my fireplace hearth nicely.
