Colorful Christmas Decor, My Merry & Bright Holiday Home Tour, Part 3

Hello there! Welcome to the final Merry & Bright Holiday Home Tour.  I can't believe week 3 is here already, I'm so excited about my tour this week!  And, don't forget to check out all the other talented ladies  linked up at the bottom of this tour.

If this is your first time here I want to welcome you and invite you in for a hot cup of coffee with a big splash of vanilla creamer or a glass of my favorite red wine (depending on what time it is, but hey, it's 5 o'clock somewhere so maybe we should just have wine??).  Anyway, a quick intro... I'm Kate, an interior decorator, blogger, DIYer and stay-home mom once my boys get home from school.  I hope you'll enjoy the final part of my tour and if you missed the other tours, you can see Part 1 Farmhouse Chic Christmas, and Part 2, Chic Christmas Decor.

I hope that you'll come back and see me again.  I host a weekly link up party called Flaunt it Friday and I would love to have you join me.  This week we'll be linking up on... you guessed it, Friday. ;)

Now... on to the tour!

My office is the most bold and colorful room in my home and I like to keep my Christmas decor colorful as well. Since I'm the only girl I love to have a space where I can bust out a bunch of pink and girly looking stuff without thinking twice about it.  I didn't do too much but what I did I really love.

My new deer pillow is my favorite addition this year.  It is a pillow covered with beaded, rainbow colored deers.  If you would've told me 5 years ago that in the future my favorite pillow would have rainbow colored beaded deers all over it I would have laughed in your face.  But, somehow it's the truth.  As trendy as it is, I love it.

Look how fabulous it is!  And, it goes awesome with my watercolor pillow and all my other colorful stuff.  #winning

Anywaaaay, I am loving flocked trees this year but I haven't been able to pull the trigger on buying a big faux flocked tree... such a big commitment to flock!  But, this little one on my desk will do.  It's so cute it doesn't even need ornaments.

I added some vintage ornaments in my favorite colors too.  It's a nice contrast to my little white tree.  In case you are wondering my son made the big circle art piece on the bulletin board behind my tree in pre-school.  I loved the colors and he is so proud to have it displayed on in my office.

I added a little tree and vintage ornament on my side table for a little more Christmas cheer.

This black wall in my office is painted in chalkboard paint.  Confession: I have yet to draw on it!  I need to season it with chalk but have been putting it off as it looks so nice with the clean black paint on it. I faked it tonight with some chalk font and photoshop magic.  Although, it's not very magical because you can pretty much tell it is photoshopped.  Oh well, whatever.  At least it's not blank, right?!  I have not yet shared my office tour on my blog but look for it in the near future with real chalk writing on the chalkboard wall and everything. :)

Now, let's head to my entryway.  It would've made more sense to do the entry first probably but I was too excited about that crazy rainbow deer pillow and had to show you all right away.  It was worth it.

So, on to my entryway...

I have this skinny little wall behind my front door that holds this art piece.  I got it for 80% off at Hob Lob a few years back.  It set in my basement for a while as it used to have some metal iron gate looking thing on it that I didn't like.  I finally decided to try and remove it, I unscrewed it and took it off, it left 2 holes in it but I wasn't worried about them.  I added my boxwood wreath and a Merry Christmas ribbon and WAA-LA!  It's ready for Christmas.  I change out the wreath depending on what time of the year it is.  The boxwood could stay up all year but I like to mix it up around here.

I love glass domes!  They make everything a little bit fancier and can make something small stand out a little bit more.  I love this little church ornament with it's tiny bottlebrush trees and glitter filled roof.  This would get lost on my 9 foot tree but sitting here under a dome on my table it will surely be noticed.
Colorful Christmas Decor, Chic on a Shoestring Decorating, Merry & Bright Holiday Home Tour
I love the vintage charm of bottlebrush trees.  I don't have much of a collection but am hoping to pick up some colorful ones for my office after Christmas when they go on sale.   Speaking of after Christmas sales...

If you follow me on Instagram you may have seen this picture.  I mentioned that a gold bust of Santa had never really been on my must-have Christmas decor list.  But, I came across this guy 90% off after Christmas one year and couldn't pass him up.  Now, I sorta love him.

This is my Christmas vignette directly across from my front door.  I hope it looks welcoming and full of Christmas cheer.

My dining room is sort of in transition right now so I don't have too many shots of it.  I love this Joy pillow I got a few years back.  Joy on one side of the table...

Peace on the other side.

My mom gave me this antique frame, it used to hold a mirror, now it frames my deer.  She's all dressed up for Christmas.

This little chair is going to be in my kitchen after Mr. Chic finishes making me a farmhouse table (YAY!) For now it sits under my deer on a little wall that divides the formal living and dining rooms.
Can you believe I bought this "Merry & Bright" pillow way before I was asked to join the Merry & Bright Holiday Home Tour?!  What a coincidence! :)

Now it's time to check out the other ladies fantastic tours.

Chic Christmas Decor, Merry & Bright Holiday Home Tour Part 2

Hi, there. Welcome to my Chic Christmas Decor, Merry & Bright Holiday Home Tour Part 2.
Last week I shared my Farmhouse Christmas decor here.  This week I am sharing my "fancy" Christmas decor, fancy according to my two little boys.   Instead of fancy I like to say it is Chic.  Lots of gold and silver, and this year I snuck in some black and white.  These colors are in the front of my home in the foyer and formal living and dining rooms.
Chic Christmas Decor, Chic on a Shoestring Decorating Blog

Before we get going I want to welcome you and thank you for stopping by.  If you are new to my blog let me give a brief introduction.  I am Kate, an interior decorator, blogger, and stay-home mom once my kids get home from school. :)  I love decorating, DIY, and finding a bargain.  As my blog name suggests, I create a chic look on a shoestring budget (most of the time) and love to share my tips with you here on the blog.  I also host a blog link-up party, Flaunt it Friday.  I would love for you to party with me.  I look forward to hanging out with you here again in the near future.

Now, the tour....  when you step in the front door you'll be standing next to my lovely and ginourmous 9 foot tree that is full of dead lights.  That's right, this pre-lit tree is dead.  Last year, I was really done with putting away Christmas decorations.  I mean... D.O.N.E.  I decided to leave the lights I added on it while storing it.  Worst idea ever.  It was a big, fat, tangled mess when we put it up.  I had to take all the lights off it and put them back on.  When I got to the final strand and plugged it in I blew a fuse and all the lights went out on it!  I proceeded to blow the fuse 3 more times before I decided I was going to have to get more cords.  This did not put me in the Christmas spirit.  This put me in a sweating, cussing under my breath, bah humbug mood.  I wanted to throw this tree out the window.  But alas, I kept at it and finally got the darn thing lit up again.

Thank goodness I think it looks pretty good despite the very shoddy lighting job by yours truly.

Across from the tree I have a cozy chair with too many pillows on it.  Long hair don't care.  I LOVE pillows.  A lot.

It's a good place to curl up with a book and coffee.

This season I am also loving bottle brush trees. LOVE-ING!

They are just the cutest little things.

I would love to get a few more but not until after Christmas when they go on clearance. :)

I am also loving the very trendy deer head we are still seeing all over.  My hubs, Mr. Chic, made this black, white and gold lovely for me.  Did I mention that we have a side business Chic Wood Creations.  We make reclaimed wood stuff.  I want to keep it all but can't keep everything.  This one is a keeper for sure!

I also bought several of these gold deer ornaments for my big tree.  They are pretty big and add a nice touch to my 9foot dead pre-lit tree.

Can you spot any more deer heads on my tree?

I also added some black and white on the couch with this cute pillow combo.

I also really love domes.  Want something to look more fancy?  Put a dome on it.
This dome is very large and full of plastic ornaments.  Plastic is the key!
You can sort of tell how big it is in my next photo.

A few more little details for you... I've got that Joy, Joy, Joy, Joy down in my heart... :)

Next on the tour is Tamyra from Positively Southern, please head on over to see her beautiful tour.  We'll all be back next Wednesday for Part 3, the final tour.

Farmhouse Christmas Decor, Merry & Bright Home Tour Part 1

Hello, friend. Welcome to my Merry & Bright Home Tour (Part 1).  There are eight other fabulous bloggers sharing there holiday decor along with me... this is gonna be fun!  Be sure to check out the rest of the home tours (direct links listed at the end of this post) for some great holiday decorating inspiration.

If this is your first time stopping by I want to tell you that I'm so happy you're here!  Hopefully you'll be able to tell from my tour that I absolutely love to decorate!  I like to say my style is "Farmhouse Chic".  This tour features my kitchen and family room which is more "Farmhouse-ish".

I hope you'll enjoy the first part of my tour and that you'll come back and see me again.  I host a weekly link up party called Flaunt it Friday and I would love to have you join me.  This week we'll be linking up on... you guessed it, Friday. ;)

Anyway, let's get started with my tour!

Farmhouse Christmas Decor, Chic on a Shoestring Decorating Blog

This is my family room, it's right off the kitchen and has a TV in it, we do most our hanging out in here.  Not to be confused with my living room, which is a little bit fancier according to my kiddos, or "chic" as I like to say. :)  And, we don't really hang out in there as much.  But you know what that means, it stays clean!  Plus, it's right by my front door so when people come over unexpectedly I can step in there and fool them into thinking I have a clean house!  HA!  Yeah, right.

This year I went with a pretty rustic mantel.  I'm an Interior Decorator (and blogger obviously) and My hubs (Mr.Chic) is a corporate guy.  We have a side gig called Chic Wood Creations and we (mostly he) builds custom furniture and decor out of reclaimed wood.  Most of the stuff on the mantel is stuff we made:  Pallet Christmas trees, wooden snowflakes, and the vintage truck painting (I made that one!) ;)

The hubs also made the look-alike vintage tool box on the coffee table per my request after I saw one on Joanna Gaines' kitchen table.  Don't you just love her show, Fixer Upper?!  The best!!  New series started last night and it's on my DVR, can't wait!!  They are the nicest people too... I digress.

Anyway, there is a little jute deer in the middle of the wreath over the fireplace.  He is so cute but is hard to photograph. I got him at the grocery store of all places!

I like to use my basket next to the fireplace for birch logs (that I'll never burn, gas fireplace, Ha!) and some greens.  The greens have lights but they photograph better when off, they look super cozy though when they're on and I'll show you below.

Here is a view of the room with the Christmas lights on, it's a little tricky to photograph but I think it shows the warmth and coziness I was trying to achieve with my decor.  At least I hope it does.

This year I decided to add some plaid to my Christmas decor.  I added a little pillow you can see below and I changed out some red chevron ribbon on my tree for plaid and I really like it. I had wanted to use black and red buffalo check ribbon but it just was too dark and blended into the tree.  You could not even see it! Waaaa Waaaaaaa (that is my sad trombone sound, if you start reading my blog, which I certainly hope you will, you will need this translation) :)

You can see the plaid ribbon on the tree below although I feel the tree looks a little sad with it's lights off.  Christmas lights are just so hard to photograph!

The hubs made this little barn door with the wreath on it and the beautiful nativity scene was given to us by my in-laws.  Each year I let my boys set up the nativity. I had to do a little rearranging before I took the pic as everyone was stuck in the stable, even a shepard, extra angel, drummer boy, and a camel, none of which made the picture. Shhhhh, don't tell them I moved it around.

Farmhouse Christmas Decor, Chic on a Shoestring Decorating Blog

Here's my chalkboard art, nothing too fancy but I do them myself and I don't have time for stencils and elaborate stuff.  Especially since I'm going to erase it in less than a month, this season is just too darn short!

Anywho, I made this chalkboard out of a garage sale mirror and some paint.  It is very large and only cost me around $12 including paint!  Did I mention I love to DIY?!  Plus, I love a good deal.

Moving over to the kitchen.  I used some red and black buffalo check (OBSESSED) in here since it didn't work very well in the family room.
Farmhouse Christmas Decor, Chic on a Shoestring Decorating Blog
I love this genuine vintage reproduction Santa ;), he is super cute!  I love that he is holding a bottle brush tree.  (another seasonal obsession this year)  I have lots more in my fancy room on the next tour so be sure you come back for that on the 9th.  I stuck this Santa in a dome and then he was big enough to hold his own as my kitchen island centerpiece.

Here's a view of our kitchen table eating area.  Mr. Chic is making me a farmhouse table for Christmas... I can hardly wait!!

I love this FREE printable (did someone say buffalo check?)  that I found online, I am looking for the link and will share it soon when I find it.  This picture doesn't really do it justice because of the glare on the glass.

Farmhouse Christmas Decor, Chic on a Shoestring Decorating Blog

Here's another view of my kitchen sideboard.  I'm not sure why but the wreath on the mirror just looks like a big green blob, it was having a bad hair day I guess.  In real life it looks pretty, I promise.

Farmhouse Christmas Decor, Chic on a Shoestring Decorating Blog
I made sure that this table pictured above said Merry Christmas twice with the free printable and my reclaimed wood sign I painted.  There will be no doubt in my kitchen that I want all to have a Merry Christmas! :)

Thank you so much for taking my home tour.  Please come back and see me again on the 9th for The Merry & Bright Holiday Home Tour Part 2 and I hope you'll come back even sooner.
